What is Hypnotherapy?Hypnotherapy is a counseling modality that emphasizes the use of hypnosis in enabling the person to get in touch with the Inner Self. Sensory perception is reduced and the conscious mind becomes quiet or passive. In this state the Inner Mind can accept and act on suggestions without interference from the Ego. Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state in which the person is usually aware of what is being said and is able to accept or reject suggestions made. A trained clinical Hypnotherapist can help the Inner Mind to review memories or past experiences and to examine current beliefs which are affecting present problems. As the Inner Mind identifies the imprints from the past of the beliefs, the Hypnotherapist can help release those causes of the present problems. As conflicts between the Ego and the Inner Mind are resolved, problems and stress are released and the person returns to normal functioning. Habits and addictions can be eliminated and many physical and emotional problems can be resolved with proper guidance from a competent clinical Hypnotherapist. With appropriate instruction a person can learn to use the techniques of self-hypnosis for being in touch with the Inner Mind and keeping actions in accordance with its directions. The United States Department of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles defines "Hypnotherapist induces hypnotic state in client to increase motivation or alter behavior or alter behavior pattern through hypnosis. Consults with client to determine the nature of problem. Prepares client to enter hypnotic states by explaining how hypnosis works and what client will experience. Tests subjects to determine degrees of physical and emotional suggestibility. Induces hypnotic techniques of hypnosis based on interpretation of tests results and analysis of client's problem. May train client in self-hypnosis conditioning."
